Did you know that clear aligners can benefit your health as well as your appearance? It’s true! The American Dental Association (ADA) has found that an aligned smile is good for not only fixing oral issues due to a misaligned bite, such as problems with your jaw, chewing difficulties, and wear and tear on tooth enamel, but that it benefits the body as well.

Dr. Huang and our Art of the Smiles team are happy to offer two types of smile alignment systems for our patients in Federal Way, Washington wanting straighter teeth, Invisalign® and ClearCorrect™. Both use clear plastic aligners to gradually and gently shift your teeth into place.

Let’s take a look at how they can benefit your health:

–Oral Hygiene: Healthy smiles get that way as a result of daily hygiene. Unfortunately, braces can make removing food particles and plaque from brackets and wires difficult, but failing to remove this oral debris over time puts you at greater risk for tooth decay. The good news is, our Invisalign and ClearCorrect aligners are removable so you can maintain your brushing and flossing habits without worrying about cleaning around brackets and wires.

–Gum Health: Healthy gums work to support the teeth in your smile, but if your gums are red and swollen due to misalignment of the teeth, you can find yourself at risk for periodontal disease. This can happen when the teeth are crowded together or spaced too widely apart. Aligned teeth allow your gums to support your chompers properly while lowering your risk of gum disease. With Invisalign and ClearCorrect, this is made possible as they gently shift your teeth into position.

–Systemic Health: The mouth provides a conducive environment for bacteria to thrive. This bacteria–which forms into a sticky film known as plaque–leads to tooth decay and gum disease. You can limit this bacterial growth through daily brushing and flossing. Without this consistent care, you may find yourself with sores in the mouth or tender, bleeding gums, halitosis (bad breath) or possible tooth loss.

Since the ADA found that oral infections are linked to a variety of health issues including heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia, stroke, an aligned smile is more important than ever. Our clear aligners will effectively align your teeth for a healthy smile and a healthy body.
